17世紀英國海盜基德船長（Captain William Kidd）留下的寶藏，在300多年後終於現身？這批寶藏係50公斤銀塊，在非洲島國馬達加斯加聖馬利島附近海域發現，7日打撈上岸後在島上舉行點交儀式，由馬達加斯加總統埃里和英、美兩國大使代表接受。
基德生前最後一次出海時，在印度洋被迫棄船，據說船上有不少珍寶；2000年，美國人克利佛率領的探險隊在馬達加斯加外海發現一艘沈船遺骸，船上的槳架、木材，乃至酒瓶和明朝瓷器等器物，經考證均屬於基德那個年代。
7日打撈上岸的白銀在舉行儀式前，由馬國當局派軍隊嚴加看守。英國大使史馬特致詞時表示，希望在馬達加斯加外海發現寶藏一事，能增加馬國作為觀光勝地的知名度。
基德是惡名昭彰的海盜，他把劫掠的財富，分別埋藏在世界各地，誘使不少做發財夢的人到處挖寶，著名的尋寶的小說《金銀島》1883年出版，據說作者史蒂文生就是受到基德故事的啟發。
